BBC news here states, “A shop assistant who was told she could not sing while she stacked shelves without a performance licence has been given an apology.” It sounds to me that an agent of the performing rights society has just been a little ‘over eager’ with the execution of their role. This highlights how performing rights can be misunderstood even from within a performing rights society.
Fake PRS Claim For Downloading Music.
We recently heard about a fraud happening in the Ukraine where some organisations were claiming to be authorised to collect royalties for performing and compositional use from businesses using music for background use.
However we have also seen bogus download claims injected into PCs from Malware that is not restricted to a single country.
This handy site tells all and explains how this is a fraud to steal money from you as a ransom for ‘unlocking your computer’.
This is a very similar scam to the infamous fake virus software people had to pay $20 to have removed from their computer.
Clearly the fraudsters have identified that royalties and copyright is a confusing area for many people and so this malware aims to exploit the confusion by threatening to lock your computer until you pay.
As soon as the user considers that this may be just a virus of some kind their scam is over as the user can update their virus software and discover the lock can be deleted.
Press Release: Music Player For Android ™ Launched
Melody Pods™ Launches Background Music Player for Android ™
Melody Pods makes background music in business simpler and more affordable with the launch of its background music player for Android ™
Cornwall, UK July 10th 2013- Building on its success in licensing thousands of tracks to businesses internationally, Kesseny Ltd decided it was time the background music market was disrupted with a new proposition that had clear benefits to businesses worldwide.
Traditionally, businesses needed to source and collate music that matched their client markets, understand what performing and composition royalty collection societies each piece of music is registered to, identify & purchase the appropriate licences before they could play the music legally. Commonly, the need to license music for public use is not known to small businesses until they get a surprise phone call or letter requesting payments they haven’t accounted for.
Now with Melody Pods’ background music player for Android™ businesses can simply download the app from Google Play, choose a collection to download and play music with no additional complications and licensing fees.
“The app has taken time to develop and get right. We have been determined to create an app that resolves the headache around using background music in business. With a simple download and sync system, straightforward playlist settings and license details, everything you need to play music for your business is done within the app, be that on your smartphone or tablet. As long as you can connect to download your music somewhere else, you don’t even need to have an Internet connection at your business” Guy Lewis, director at Melody Pods™ stated.
“So with the tracks securely located in the app you don’t risk stream interruptions common to Internet radio & your legally licensed music is separate from any personal music you may also have stored on your device.”
“With thousands of selected and remastered tracks in our library new tracks are added each month assuring customer’s playlists stay fresh. The music is organised into collections to meet the needs of cafes, restaurants, retail stores and malls, hotels, receptions, spas and gyms so there is less sorting and collating needed by customers.”
All Melody Pods™ music is cleared from all performing / composition royalty collection societies so there are no additional royalties to pay any third party. With a copy of a Melody Pods’ license businesses can make the total cost of using music in their business a fraction of the annual costs of traditional music licensing methods, even with the cost of a tablet included in year one.
Melody Pods ™ is a trading name of Kesseny ltd, registered in the UK which licenses music for business. Company registration number: 04683874
Android™ is a trademark of Google Inc.
